Blackwell under investigation
Freedom football coach Marquel Blackwell is under investigation by the school district's Office of Professional Standards for a verbal altercation between him and another male teacher, Hillsborough County School District spokesperson Linda Cobbe said Thursday.
Cobbe said there has been no discipline yet for Blackwell, a former USF quarterback and Dixie Hollins grad in his first year as head coach. The Patriots 0-5, who have been outscored 159-6, play Durant tonight; Blackwell, also an in-school suspension teacher, said he'll be coaching.
"Anybody who knows me knows everything is going to be okay," Blackwell said. "It (was) nothing unprofessional. ...It'll be over soon."
Dagostino notches 700th
Berkeley Prep volleyball coach Randy Dagostino reached a milestone 700 wins on Wednesday night. Dagostino, who has a 700-150 record in 25 years at Berkeley, saw his Bucs defeat Lennard 25-11, 25-5, 25-9
Buccina finishes as low man
East Lake's Nick Buccina (36.67) edged Tarpon Springs' Alec Konstantin (36.83) for the lowest PCAC scoring average this season in nine-hole events. Dunedin's Justin Foster finished third with 37, followed by Palm Harbor U.'s Zach Sobel (37.75), the Falcons' Travis Houston (37.80) and Countryside's Tyler Wilkins (38.17). All six will be competing for the 2A-12 district title Monday at Wentworth Golf Club.
