Hang on to thosehigh draft picks
Finally, proof that a team's ability to run the ball has less to do with a high-priced running back and more to do with a quality offensive line. Last week, Chargers backup Michael Turner, above, led the league with 147 yards, Colts backup Kenton Keith was second with 121, and Patriots backup Sammy Morris was fifth with 102.
Reach for more than his wallet
After watching Cowboys safety Roy Williams break Terrell Owens' ankle with a horse-collar tackle four seasons ago, the NFL created a rule prohibiting defenders from pulling down ball carriers from behind by the neck of their jerseys or shoulder pads. Why? Because it's dangerous. But Williams remains the leading offender. He did it again during the Monday night game at Buffalo. Apparently, fines are not enough. Maybe Roger Goodell needs to horse collar Williams and put him on the sideline for a week.
Adding insultto insult
NFL teams in dire need of quarterbacks signed Tim Rattay, Craig Nall and Vinny Testaverde, 43, off their couches this week. Meanwhile, Aaron Brooks can't even get a workout.
Who's hot
Redskins QBJason Campbell
The young starter, right, completed 23 of 29 passes for 248 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions for a career-best 125.3 rating in last week's win against the Lions. Joe Gibbs was right: This kid looks more and more like Doug Williams every week.
Who's cold
Falcons QB Byron Leftwich
Leftwich, below, must have thought he was operating the T-shirt gun when the Falcons brought him off the bench last week against the Titans. Nothing else explains all those balls he rocketed into the seventh row behind the end zone.
Stat ofthe week
39Teams since 2000 that finished Week 5 with a winning record that did not make the playoffs.
Quoteof the week
"It's hard to believe he's playing at 38. He looks 18."
Redskins coach Joe Gibbson Packers QB Brett Favre
Feud of the week
Browns tight end Kellen Winslow is taking a new tack in his ongoing and occasionally profane war of words with former Steelers and current Dolphins linebacker Joey Porter, right: Kindness. "Joey Porter needs a hug," Winslow said. "He's so angry."
