Oldsmar's eclectic yearly talent shows are standing-room-only events. Oldsmar officials say entertainers "of all abilities and imaginations" are welcome to audition from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Cypress Forest Recreation Center, 650 Pine Ave. N. Engaging acts in previous years have included musicians, vocalists, theater acts, ventriloquists, jugglers, clowns and a Hula Hoop expert. The talent show is 7 p.m. Nov. 9. Prizes awardedat costume contest
Time to get your costumes ready. Oldsmar is holding a Halloween carnival from 6 to 9 p.m. Oct. 26 in R.E. Olds Park, 107 Shore Drive W. The event features carnival games, a haunted trail, an inflatable haunted house and costume competition for children. The prizes are $50, $25 and $15 Toys R Us gift certificates. The contest is divided into four age groups and starts at 6:30 p.m., with registration starting at 6 p.m. The event is free, and soda and bratwurst will be sold. Call (813) 749-1260.
EAST LAKE
Workshop teaches about Alzheimer's
Learn more about Alzheimer's disease at a workshop from 8:30 a.m. to noon at East Lake United Methodist Church, 2801 East Lake Road. Topics will include medical aspects of the disease, behaviors associated with it and how to communicate with Alzheimer's patients. Mary Coe, who worked as a registered nurse in a hospital Alzheimer's unit, and Marian Palmer, a registered music therapist and certified activity consultant, will speak. All are welcome. Season's fashions on display Nov. 1
Wondering what fashion will bring this fall? The Palm Harbor Newcomers Alumnae and Friends will bring you up to date at "An Affair to Remember," the group's annual fashion show, at 11 a.m. Nov. 1 at the East Lake Woodlands Country Club, 1005 East Lake Woodlands Parkway.
