Madeira Beach official joins city staff

CLEARWATER

Madeira Beach City Manager Jill Silverboard has been hired as Clearwater's assistant city manager. Silverboard replaces Garry Brumback, who was hired as city manager of Baytown, Texas. Silverboard was one of 145 candidates for the job. In addition to her position in Madeira Beach, Silverboard has also served as city manager in Destin, deputy city manager in Hallandale and planning director in Brevard, N.C.

Golden frog talk set for Thursday

Dustin Smith of Busch Gardens will talk about his recent trip to Panama to study the endangered golden frog at 7 p.m. Thursday at Moccasin Lake Nature Park, 2750 Park Trail Lane, Clearwater. The free program is open to the public and is sponsored by the Suncoast Herpetological Society. Call 727 942-6700.

Two-legged kids will enjoy this, too

Spider races, spiderweb hiking and spider snacks are just some of the "Spooktacular Spiders" events planned for kids from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday at the Dunedin Nature Center, 1910 Ed Eckert Drive.
