Reclaimed line dispute to goto commission

Aloha Utilities and the owner of the Alli Gators restaurant will take their dispute over the construction of a reclaimed water line to the Public Service Commission next month. Aloha had required Alli Gators owner Warren Dunphy to build the water line as a condition of getting service. Dunphy had to put up a $300,000 letter of credit to assure its construction. But Dunphy balked, saying it was unfair for Aloha to force him to build a reclaimed water line of which his restaurant would be using only a small percentage. He filed a complaint against Aloha with the Public Service Commission. In June, commission staff members sided with Dunphy, saying Aloha's requirement was "not prudent." Aloha lawyers called that opinion "inappropriate" and asked that the matter proceed to a hearing before the commission. That hearing is scheduled for Nov. 20 in Tallahassee.

Medical center is rated among best
Pasco Regional Medical Center ranked among the top 5 percent of hospitals nationally in the independent HealthGrades Hospital Quality in America Study issued Monday. The 120-bed acute care facility is also a recipient of the 2008 HealthGrades General Surgery Excellence Award. The study analyzed patient outcomes at most of the nation's 5,000 hospitals from 2004 to 2006. Patients admitted to top-performing hospitals have, on average, a 71 percent lower chance of dying than those treated at one-star hospitals in numerous procedures, according to the study.
