Family Reading Night scheduled for Tuesday

A Family Reading Night for parents and students is scheduled for 5:30 Tuesday at the school, 1680 74th St. N, St. Petersburg.

The purpose of the event is to share ideas and strategies with parents so they can help their children become better readers.

The evening will begin with a free dinner at 5:30, sponsored by CD Roma's restaurant and the school PTA. Students then will go to the media center for reading activities.

The school is planning free transportation to make attendance easier for some families. Contact Sue Boyd at (727) 893-2187.

Red Ribbon Fun Fest is Saturday at park

Join a celebration of a healthy drug-free lifestyle at the fourth annual Red Ribbon Family Fun Fest starting at 8 a.m. Saturday at North Straub Park, Bayshore Drive and Fifth Avenue on St. Petersburg's waterfront.

The event includes a 5K run, a 1-mile walk, family entertainment, arts and crafts, inflatable rides and more. There's a $25 registration fee for the run and walk and includes free family activities.

LAKEWOOD HIGH

teens TO vie in world fuel cell competition

Lakewood High School juniors from the Center for Advanced Technology (CAT) have qualified for the International Youth Fuel Cell Competition by coming in first place making hydrogen fuel cell cars. Patrick Fenelon, Nick Phillips, Paul Rosenberger and Erica VonStein are representing the United States this week at the International Youth Fuel Cell Competition in San Antonio, Texas. The team is competing with other students from around the globe, including Russia, Japan, Germany, Brazil and India. Science teachers Andrea Carvill and Jennifer Pacowta oversee the program.
