Cross country showdown
Jesuit, led by junior Connor Revord, has been the cream of the county cross country crop, winning four weekend invitationals. But today, the Tigers will put bragging rights on the line at the Gasparilla County Cup at Lake Park, where all county teams will meet for a championship. Is Sickles, which got its best performance of the year from Ciprian Mejia 16:32 at Flrunners, peaking at the right time? Will the Wharton girls, whose Skinner sisters (Katrina and Kathia) own two of the county's top five times, come out on top? Find out at 5:30 p.m. (girls) and 6 (boys), and in the Times on Thursday.
Honor roll

So close again
There's no shame in placing second, but you'll have to forgive Plant junior Doug Letson for not being overly thrilled by his runnerup finish at Monday's Class 2A, District 10 golf tourney.
That's because he also was second in 2005 and '06.
Letson shot 1 over Monday to finish one back of Blake's Rick Kittelstad. But he could have won had he not bogeyed the 17th and 18th holes. To his credit, Letson didn't sweat it.
In fact, he praised Kittelstad after the round.
"It hard to feel sorry for someone that shoots that kind of round consistently," Plant coach Mike James said of Letson.
Waiting game
King golfer Chris Biuso took an official visit to Louisville over the weekend, and the standout senior came away impressed. Biuso, who played with the team Sunday and did well according to King coach Barrett Zebos, hopes the Cardinals will offer him a scholarship.
"He's definitely in the hunt," Zebos said.
