Alumni game a hit

An insurance salesman returned to the court and was a leading scorer for one more night. Nate Goad, class of 2001, scored 22 points and grabbed 15 rebounds, leading the Green to a 84-76 victory over the White in Gulf's first alumni basketball game. Players included alums from the 1980s through last season.

"It helped reinforce the bond from guys we haven't been in touch with for some time," Gulf coach Steve Feldman said. "There were lots of man hugs all around."

Feldman, who was the emcee, wasn't sure what to expect. He got a good crowd and a great effort from guys such as Joe Phillips, who had 16 points and six assists. Five guys from each team scored in double figures.

"The crowd was roaring," said Feldman, who hopes to make the game an annual event. "The players put on a clinic. They put it all out on the line."
