Seniors can apply for low-income exception

COUNTYWIDE
The Hernando County Property Appraiser's Office is taking applications for the Low Income Senior Exemption.
An additional $50,000 Low Income Senior Homestead Exemption is available for county senior residents who have homestead exemption and meet the following criteria:
-Eligible for a $25,000 homestead exemption on Jan. 1.
-At least one of the home's owners is 65 years or older on Jan. 1.
-Have a total household adjusted gross income that does not exceed $24,214 in 2007 (subsequent years' income limitation will be adjusted annually).
Those who meet all the requirements can visit one of the Property Appraiser's offices or attend the New Residents Reception scheduled for 5 to 7 p.m. Oct. 25 at Weeki Wachee Springs, where County Property Appraiser Alvin Mazourek's staff will assist eligible low-income seniors in getting this new benefit for the 2008 tax year.
Property Appraiser offices are at Suite 300, Brooksville City Hall, 201 Howell Ave., Brooksville, and at the Westside Government Center, 7525 Forest Oaks Blvd., Spring Hill. For information, call 754-4190.

Concert series season tickets are on sale
The Community Performing Arts Guild is selling season tickets for the 2007-08 concert series.
Tickets are $60 per person and include seven shows, including one show available to season subscribers only.
The season's concerts include:
-Bay Street Bassworks, Nov. 10
-Holiday concert with the Tampa Bay Children's Choir, with a guest choir from Poland, Dec. 1
-The Legends of Doo Wop, Jan. 12
-e_STnSEntertainment Revue, song and dance ensemble of 20 girls ages 6 to 16, Jan. 26
-The Burchfield Brothers, Feb. 2. This is a special concert for season ticket holders only. This Nashville duo perform on classical guitar and the mallet kat.
-The Red Hot Jubilee Jam, variety show, Feb. 23
-Eckerd College Concert Choir and Bell Ringers, March 8
All concerts will have 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. performances and will be at Mariner United Methodist Church, 7079 Mariner Blvd.
The Community Performing Arts Guild is an outreach program of the church. As part of the program, a limited number of complimentary tickets are given out for each performance, with the exception of the Burchfield Brothers concert.
Free tickets for the first two concerts will be given out from 9 a.m. to noon Oct. 30 at the church.

WEEKI WACHEE
Hernando Harmonizers to perform on Nov. 17
The Hernando Harmonizers' sixth annual concert, "A Tribute to the Music Man," will be held at 2 p.m. Nov. 17 at Nativity Lutheran Church, 6363 Commercial Way. Doors open at 1:30 p.m.
The concert will feature songs like 76 Trombones, Till There Was You, It's You and Lida Rose and will include various show, Gospel and traditional tunes.
The special guest will be Arlene Smith, wife of the original baritone who started with the quartet The Buffalo Bills, who sang in the show on Broadway. The performance will also include guest Polyfonix an award-winning quartet from Tampa.
Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students, if purchased in advance, or $12 for adults and $6 for students at the door.

Find a small treasure at church's bazaar
The Grace Church Crafters bazaar is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 10 in the fellowship hall at Grace Presbyterian Church, 8375 Spring Hill Drive.
The event will include "attic treasures," jewelry, hand-crafted Christmas ornaments, live plants and silk floral arrangements, knitted items and baked goods. A light breakfast or lunch can be purchased.
All proceeds will support the mission ministry of the Presbyterian Women of Grace Church.
BROOKSVILLE
Show your gratitude in veterans parade
Participants are needed for the 2007 Veterans Appreciation Parade, which will be at 10 a.m. Nov. 10 in downtown Brooksville.
The parade lineup will be at 8:30 a.m. in the parking lot behind Brooksville City Hall, 201 Howell Ave.

Computer Fest offers software classes
The Spring Hill Teaching Computer Club will host a Computer Fest 2007 from 1 to 4 p.m. Oct. 27 at the Weeki Wachee Senior Citizens Center, 2257 Susan Drive.
Visitors will receive a free copy of the club's newsletter, PC Keyboard, as well as information about day, evening and Saturday classes, ranging from basic Windows XP to photography.
The digital camera group will take individuals' pictures at the Passport Photos display. There will be an exhibit of pictures that illustrate the aspects of the Adobe Photoshop Elements, as well as a slide show. The digital embroidery group will exhibit embroidered items and demonstrate a digital embroidery machine. The genealogy group will have slide shows on "Dating Old Photographs" and vintage fashions, as well as the Family Tree Maker software. The music group will have a presentation of CDs and DVDs on downloading and organizing music from the Internet.

Ukrainian Catholic picnic set for Sunday
The St. Andrew Ukrainian Catholic Church Fall Picnic is scheduled to begin at noon Sunday at 8064 Weeping Willow St.
Music will be provided by Kathy. Food will include grilled kielbasa, hot dogs, stuffed cabbage, pierogi, kapusta, salads and desserts. Coffee and soda are included. The cost is $12.50 per person. For tickets, call Alyce at 688-1839.

St. Paul's open house scheduled for Nov. 3
The St. Paul the Apostle open house is scheduled at 4 p.m. Nov. 3 in the fellowship hall at United Church of Christ, 4244 Mariner Blvd.
The event will include a free organ concert featuring a variety of music provided by Fletcher Music Studio, followed by a Catholic Mass and a free potluck supper of stuffed cabbage, turkey, ham and side dishes.
