Hernando will be wearing special pink jerseys to commemorate breast cancer awareness in its home finale against cross-county rival Central. The Leopards also will host a drawing for prizes donated by area businesses.
District craziness
Zephyrhills and Hudson have two district losses on the season, and the teams split their season series. Yet Zephyrhills will be the No. 1 seed in the Class 4A, District 8 volleyball tournament next week at Hudson. The reason?
According to several area coaches, the addition of Wiregrass and Sunlake made the district so big that some teams couldn't schedule each other twice. As a result, the member schools decided before the season to count only the first round of games toward the district tournament seeding. Zephyrhills beat Hudson the first time. Therefore, the Bulldogs are the No. 1 seed.
No. 3 seed Nature Coast, meanwhile, likely will have a date with the hottest team in the district in the semifinals.
"For us, that means we're going to have to work our tail off," coach Dan Murphy said.
