Dad has 6 months to write apology
The father accused of battering his son's baseball coach in front of the team must apologize to the coach. That's part of the agreement allowing Howard Behlau, 52, to enter a pretrial intervention program that could result in the misdemeanor battery charge against him being dropped. He was accused of attacking Florida Panthers AAU coach Andy Contafio on the practice field Feb. 23 in front of several preteen players. Behlau told the Times that Contafio insulted his wife. The coach denied that, and said he was attacked because he told the Behlaus their son should play for another team after he overheard them bad-mouthing the other players. Behlau, who could not be reached for comment, must complete a program that includes counseling, restitution and community service. He also agreed to stay away from the team, according to Contafio's attorney Jeff Lucas, and has six months to write that apology. The Contafios have moved out of state.
Correction
