Pasco 42, Sunlake 0

DADE CITY - Pasco will move to the front of the district bus.
That's what coach Tom McHugh told his team following the Pirates' 42-0 win over Sunlake on Friday night at W.F. Edwards Stadium. In reality, Pasco (3-4, 2-1) is in a three-way tie for second in Class 3A, District 8 with Hudson and Gulf, and visits the Bucs on Nov. 2.
"It's a good district win," McHugh said. "Sunlake's not a bad team. They've got some quick kids, but they're just inexperienced."
The Seahawks (0-7, 0-3), who were held scoreless for the fourth time this season, mustered 67 yards of total offense, had just 16 first downs and were 2-for-14 on third-down conversions. The Pirates racked up 282 rushing yards behind Jamall Haynes, who had 68 yards and two touchdowns, and Demetrious McLaughlin, who had 74 yards and a score.
"We got dominated up front," Sunlake coach Bill Browning said. "I thought we played an excellent first quarter, but there's no consistency because there's bits and spurts throughout the game that we looked good."
Pasco was held to just six points in the first: a 23-yard pass from D.J. Clower to Chase Dunn. Clower was 4-for-6 passing for 92 yards despite not attempting a pass in the second half. Eric Stroud, who had two rushes for 6 yards, added a 3-yard score in the second, and senior Tevaris Jordan added a 21-yard touchdown in the fourth.
Despite sitting near the top of the district, McHugh knows the upcoming game against Wiregrass Ranch can't be overlooked.
"Sunlake's got nothing to lose, just like Wiregrass," McHugh said. "But we've got everything to lose and you can't look ahead to Gulf and say, 'We're just going to skip Wiregrass.' Because you have to focus on every district game."
