Dentist will collect Halloween candy

Instead of lecturing against candy, a dentist has figured out another way to protect youngsters' teeth during Halloween: cash. Mark Mathias is offering to pay kids $5 for 2 pounds of candy they drop off at his office.

Car kills pair fighting on road
Arguing in a moving car is dangerous enough. Taking a fight outside onto an interstate ramp was deadly for two Florida residents Thursday. Authorities say 20-year-old Ramon Perez of Port St. Lucie, and 36-year-old Marie Mary of Lauderdale Lakes got out of their car on the State Road 7 northbound ramp to Interstate 595 and fell to the ground in a struggle. A northbound Toyota entering the highway struck the pair, killing them both.

Panel will focus on gang activity
Developing a statewide gang-reduction strategy will be the focus of a panel formed Thursday by Attorney General Bill McCollum. Members includeLaw Enforcement Commissioner Gerald Bailey, acting Education Commissioner Jeanine Blomberg, Children and Families Secretary Bob Butterworth, Corrections Secretary James McDonough, Juvenile Justice Secretary Walter McNeil and Office of Drug Control director Bill Janes.

2 indicted in case of missing charter crew
A federal grand jury on Thursday indicted two men on first-degree murder charges stemming from last month's disappearance at sea of four Miami Beach charter crew members. The two defendants entered pleas of not guilty. Guillermo Zarabozo, 20, of Hialeah and Kirby Archer, 36, of Arkansas have been held in detention since the crew's disappearance in late September. The Coast Guard recovered the Joe Cool on Sept. 23, one day after it had left Miami Beach on a trip to Bimini chartered for $4,000 by Zarabozo and Archer.
