Reader Exchange: Manuscript typed and ready for editor

Halloween is about to sneak up on us, and here's the scariest thing - it doesn't seem too long ago that we were dodging ghosts, carving pumpkins and propitiating ghouls with candy. Oh well, at least it's fun, unlike some days, April 15 included. Here's great news from New Port Richey speech pathologist Marge Gibbons, who wrote several months ago seeking a typist for her client Lonnie Losh. Despite some fairly daunting physical challenges, Lonnie had written his autobiography, and the manuscript needed to be typed. Our readers came through, and the process toward publication took its first step. In Marge's words "a truly wonderful REX reader, Valerie H., delivered the book, 285 pages long, to Lonnie recently and met him and his 'family' in an emotional meeting." Now that the book is typed, Marge is asking folks who offered their editing skills to come forward again and move the project further one more step. Of course, the author is very eager to see his work published, so any readers with experience in that final phase or with suggestions to offer will be welcomed. Lonnie's e-mail address is LonnieLosh1@aol.com. Dorothe Hession of Holiday has two requests to benefit her church in connection with a fundraiser to be held Sunday, Nov. 11. The church is sponsoring an English tea party for a nondenominational gathering of faiths. Dorothe feels proper teacups and pitchers would be so elegant, were they lucky to have enough, rather than using foam cups or heavy coffee mugs. Dorothe is also looking for an old the older the better, she says dressmaker's form. The church would put her to good use as a decoration for a senior setting. Dorothe can be reached at (727) 934-1802 and she will arrange pickup. Jim Kelly of Clearwater is retired and would like to take up his old hobby but is having trouble finding model kits made with balsa wood. If you can help Jim locate any kits, give him a call at (727) 791-0955 or e-mail jimlert@peoplepc.com. Conversely, Patricia Holmes of Tampa has just discovered a new hobby: silk-ribbon embroidery. She would like to hear from folks with knowledge about where to purchase kits, ribbons and books on the subject, and in return she'll happily share whatever information she has obtained. Patricia may be reached at (813) 879-1069. Instructions alert! Marilyn Wright has an older Magnavox VCR, model VR9860AT02, but no instructions for it. If you have these instructions but no longer need them, or if you are willing to make a copy for Marilyn, please call (727) 867-3365 or e-mail mwright000@tampabay.rr.com. "Can you stand to read one more request for a sewing machine manual that has been misplaced/lost?" writes Priscilla Brys, who's borrowing her daughter's Janome New Home sewing machine. Problem is, her daughter can't lend Mom the manual that goes with it because she can't track it down. The sewing machine is a My Excel 15S, model MS315. Patricia would be delighted to copy yours. Please call (727) 518-6124 or (527) 798-8751 and put an end to the troubles Patricia is experiencing with the tension settings. Projector alert! Grace Matella writes that when the Matellas moved to Florida 13 years ago, they never dreamed they would ever use their old projector again, so they gave it away. Now they want to have their old holiday films put on DVDs for their kids. Grace has unsuccessfully scoured every thrift shop within a radius of 20 miles, with no luck. So if you are one of the REXers who already secured a Super 8 projector through this column to transfer old family memories from film to DVD, it's time to pass the machine along. Please call (727) 861-3300 or e-mail gmatella@verizon.net. Louise Goldman of New Port Richey is disabled and trying to find a new way to keep her hands busy. We can guess which activity she has decided upon: Louise is requesting any old or new sheet music readers can spare. Please call (727) 849-7137 or e-mail ladylouise1950@verizon.net. Years ago, Marilyn of Tarpon Springs purchased a carpet cleaner called Kleen-Rite from a flea market. The product is a concentrated powder that is mixed with water; it contains no soap and retards resoiling. Now Marilyn has run out of Kleen-Rite and has no idea where to find a supplier. Following up on her initial experience, she tried to locate Kleen-Rite at the Oldsmar flea market, but to no avail. If you have any information on where this cleaner can be purchased, please call Marilyn at (727) 938-2581 and leave a message. Elaine Schwarz of Tarpon Springs received a large quantity of brown rice and is searching for a 1-gallon plastic jar to store it in. If you can help, call (727) 934-0197.
