The story goes that the ghost of Jessie May, a toddler who died in 1872, cries for her mother in the May-Stringer Mansion in Brooksville. Virginia Rusk, volunteer coordinator at the May-Stringer Heritage Museum, says it is rumored that there are more spooks on the property, including Jessie's father and a possible homicide victim. "Halloween is important to us," says Rusk, 69. "I haven't seen Jessie's ghost, but I do love a good mystery."

What is on your nightstand?

Diagnosis Murder: The Last Word by Lee Goldberg. I've always read detective stories. It started when I was young with Official Detective Magazine. I also enjoy true crime stories, including the CSI shows.

Does it ever get too gruesome for you?

No, I'm so fascinated that I just don't get scared.
