More than 40 Hispanic nonprofit organizations, representing everyone from Peruvians to Puerto Ricans, have joined forces in the Hispanic Alliance of Tampa Bay.

So far, the 2-year-old alliance has offered free seminars for its members on writing press releases and running nonprofit organizations. It is also sponsoring an exhibit of Hispanic art in Clearwater and is planning a Web site and calendar of local Hispanic events.

The alliance's members also met with Tampa's Mayor Pam Iorio and plan future meetings with other government officials.

"The officials have opened their doors to the alliance," said Luis Lopez, the group's spokesman. "Through us they can hear about the problems of the community as a whole."
