The Lamwers
Mary and Henry Lamwer of Spring Hill recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. They wed on Sept. 26, 1947, in Wrightsville, Pa.
Mrs. Lamwer began her career as a schoolteacher in Pennsylvania and New Jersey; she later worked as a computer programmer and systems analyst in Neptune, N.J.
After serving in World World II in Europe, Mr. Lamwer's career began with the Loyalty Group of insurance companies in Newark, N.J., as a field inspector in the fire protection and safety vocation, then he worked as a superintendent of office services. Upon the merger of the Continental Insurance Group and Loyalty Group, he attended, graduated and taught evenings at the College of Insurance, which was part of the St. John's University in New York. In 1971, he became office manager of Insco, which was the computer arm of the Continental Corp.
After 33 years in the insurance business, the couple retired in 1982 to Largo. They moved to Spring Hill in 1997.
For the past 10 years, they both have been volunteer Hernando County Master Gardeners. They are also volunteer tutors for the HEART Adult Literacy Program; Mary tutors English as a second language, and Henry tutors basic and advanced math.
The Lamwers have four children, eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. The couple celebrated their anniversary in Pennsylvania, Minnesota and Orlando with family and friends.
