The Largo/Mid-Pinellas Chamber of Commerce will soon be introducing its new young professionals network called HYPE Pinellas Helping Young Professionals Emerge. HYPE Pinellas is designed for businesspeople between the ages of 21 and 39. It will feature several networking and educational events throughout the year.

Speakers to discuss 'Hometown Democracy'

The Largo/Mid-Pinellas Chamber of Commerce has joined other business organizations in a fight against the "Hometown Democracy" amendment. Should the initiative make it to a statewide ballot and be ratified next year, many believe it would seriously jeopardize Florida's prosperity and quality of life.

The amendment will be the topic of the next chamber business luncheon, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 13 at Cypress Palms, 400 Lake Ave. NE. It will feature Neil Brickfield of Floridians for Smarter Growth and Brad Swanson of the Florida Chamber of Commerce.

Cost to attend is $10 for members in advance, $15 at the door and $20 for nonmembers. Call 584-2321 or e-mail to register.

Hear state of Florida's economy from CFO

State chief financial officer Alex Sink will provide a look at "The State of the State's Economy" at Focus on 2008: A Tampa Bay Economic Forecast, from 3 to 5:30 p.m. Nov. 15 at the Largo Public Library Jenkins Community Wing, 120 Central Park Drive.

The event is an annual forum of business experts who share predictions and provide insight on significant global, national and regional issues destined to affect the Tampa Bay economy.

Also during the event, the presentation of the Focus 2007 Economist of the Year Award and surveys for the 2008 honor will take place. Focus sponsors include Progress Energy, Raymond James Financial, Eric and Pat Gerard, and Colonial Bank.

Cost to attend is $25 per person and limited seating is available. To purchase tickets, call the chamber at 584-2321 or the library foundation at 586-7398.

Meet Thursday for coffee, networking

The Largo/Mid-Pinellas Chamber of Commerce will hold its monthly Coffee An'Networking from 8 to 9 a.m. Thursday at Beef O'Brady's, Pinellas Shopping Center, 841 West Bay Drive.

A networking exercise and door prizes will be featured. Body-Mind Balance is the business showcase sponsor. Cost is free for members and $5 for nonmembers. To register, call the chamber at 584-2321 or e-mail
