ORLANDO - A private security guard pocketed about $33,000 from ATM cash deposits while on his weekly run to the Bank of America Florida headquarters, police said.
A corporate investigator for Brink's Co. followed Juan Mora-Pomales during Wednesday's trip and saw him throw a bag into a trash can, the Orange County Sheriff's Office said. Inside were opened cash bags and shredded deposit envelopes that should have contained $2,095.
When confronted, Mora-Pomales admitted the theft, according to the arrest affidavit released Friday. He then pointed investigators to the freezer at his house, atop which police found more than $10,000 hidden in underwear, and to a backpack in his car, which contained $2,050.
Police also seized a silver-and-onyx bracelet, earrings and a 9mm Glock pistol.
More than 30 deposits ranging from $40 to $81,000 disappeared from Aug. 1 to Oct. 17 during the Wednesday run while Mora-Pomales worked as a messenger.
Mora-Pomales, 33 of Kissimmee, was charged with grand theft and scheme to defraud.
