Douglas W. Edwards has recently assumed operation of Max Bar & Grill, inside the Best Western hotel at Interstate 75 and State Road 50, Ridge Manor West. The restaurant serves dinner six nights a week and offers a full bar as well as banquet/catering facilities.
Max Bar & Grill is open from 4 to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday, with the bar remaining open until 10 p.m. Service on Sundays is available, on request, for large parties.
Edwards is also the owner of the Nature Coast Cafe, Nature Coast Catering and In the Spirit Beverage, all in Hernando County. Nature Coast Cafe is the food and beverage service provider for the Best Western and runs the restaurant.

A recent charity golf tournament at the Southern Hills Golf Club raised $2,750 to benefit the Monique Burr Foundation for Children and the Spring of Tampa Bay. Since 2005, Southern Hills has raised more than $58,000 for children in the Tampa Bay area.
The tournament's first-place winners were golf club member and Monique Burr Foundation board member Ed Bulleit and his team of Paul Dellegatto, Kevin Hubert and Dr. Gene Ring. Second place was awarded to member Steve Erick, sales manager for Southern Hills Plantation Club, who played with guests Steve Combs, Dave Milliman and Marty Martinson.
The tournament raised $1,500 for the Spring of Tampa Bay and $1,250 for the Monique Burr Foundation. The tournament was presented by LandMar Group and Hampton Golf, which raised the donation through tournament entry fees and a silent auction.

The U.S. Small Business Administration reminds businesses in Hernando that economic injury disaster loans are available to small businesses economically impacted by the severe storms and tornadoes on Feb. 1-2.
Small businesses that suffered economic losses and want to apply for low-interest loans from the SBA are urged to do so before the deadline Nov. 5.
To obtain a loan application, business owners should contact the SBA's customer service center toll-free 1-800-659-2955.

On Oct. 1, Blackburn presided as chairman of the membership committee for the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians. He is president-elect of the alumni association.
On Oct. 3, Blackburn addressed the association's Bureau of State Government Affairs Committee regarding non-physician clinicians' scope of practice in medicine. He's first vice president of the Florida Osteopathic Medical Association.

Belk Department Store, 13151 Cortez Blvd., Spring Hill, will have its Fall Charity Day sale from 6 to 10 a.m. Nov. 10. Nonprofit organizations may still sign up to participate.
The sale is intended to help organizations raise money. All participating nonprofit, tax-exempt organizations will sell tickets for $5 each. People who purchase a ticket will receive a shopping pass good for 20 percent to 50 percent off throughout the store, in addition to $5 off a first purchase.
During the sale, organizations will be encouraged to present information to customers. Organizations will be allowed to have bake sales outside the store.
