Discover the story behind refugee's eyes
His 1985 National Geographic photograph captured the piercing green eyes of a 12-year-old refugee girl in a camp on the Afghanistan-Pakistan border. Soviet helicopters had destroyed her family and village. Tuesday, photographer Steve McCurry will describe how he and a team found the woman, Sharbat Gula, 17 years later. His free lecture, open to the public, will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on the ninth floor of the Vaughn Center at the University of Tampa. "I look for the unguarded moment, the essential soul peeking out, experience etched on a person's face," says McCurry.

UF sorority's raucous night
(Gradebook, Oct. 24)
A visit by a University of Florida sorority to the Columbia Restaurant in Ybor City turned into a scene that would appall Miss Manners.
Vomit. Bar fights. Broken toilets. Sloppy drunkenness.
And the comments rolled in.
"Publish names and photos of the entire group! Embarrassment is an excellent deterrent."
"Who'sthese girls' housemother? Courtney Love?"
"UF president Machen should send the Columbia manager an 'official' UPD Taser gun ... for next year's visit by the sorority."
"Get mommy and daddy's attention. Yank these kids' Bright Future scholarships."
"When I went to UF in the '80s, the Greeks were a bunch of drunks anyway. ... Sad to know nothing has changed."
"I need the names and numbers of all of the women involved in this incident."
"I miss college."
