Fishermen rescued after vessel sinks

KEY WEST - Four fisherman are safe after being rescued by Coast Guard officials Saturday after their vessel hit an unknown object and later sank. The 42-foot Madame Glenda hit the object around 8 p.m. Friday off Key West. Search and rescue officials got a call from another vessel saying the boat was taking on water. Officials were on the scene within an hour and tried dropping pumps to the fishermen. The pumps, however, couldn't keep water from coming in through a 6- by 3-foot gash in the hull. Rescue crews had the fishermen abandon the vessel early Saturday morning about 50 miles northwest of Key West, Coast Guard officials said in a statement.
