On the Web: football rankings
Largo (No. 3) and Countryside (No. 9) are the highest-ranked county teams in the Times' Top 50. Find out where your team ranks at highschool.tampabay.com.
Golden Eagle settles on UT
Indian Rocks Christian senior Brianne Yeates can't be positive how far the Eagles will go in the playoffs, but she does know one thing for sure: where she'll be playing volleyball next season.
Yeates, a Times' first-team all-county selection as a sophomore, committed to the University of Tampa.
"It's such a relief," Yeates said. "For so long I didn't know where I would be going next year, but now it's set and I'm so excited."
Yeates was leaning toward Eckerd before taking an official visit to UT two weeks ago.
"Once I saw the campus and the dedication they have to the program, I knew it was right," Yeates said.
The Spartans are ranked No.1 in the Division II national poll. IRC opens the playoffs tonight at 7 against Fort Meade.
Shorecrest pulls off big win
The Chargers used their running game to grind out a 27-20 victory over Fort Myers Gateway Charter last week.
Hunter Tremaine had two touchdown runs and scored on a two-point conversion.
Jack Schroeder and Toms Bernhards also scored on short runs.
Shorecrest (5-3) sealed the game with a drive that took up the final 6 minutes of regulation.
