Women's group will hold Monte Carlo night

Free shuttle will run for this week's boat show

A free shuttle will run Thursday through Sunday for the Strictly Sail St. Petersburg Boat Show. The shuttle will run every 10 minutes, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday and Friday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. It will make three stops: Progress Energy Park/Al Lang Field parking lot, east side of First Street S, just south of First Avenue S; BayWalk/Mid Core parking garage, east side of First Street S, just north of First Avenue N; and Dolphin Parking Lot/ Spa Beach, Second Avenue on the Pier, just east of the Museum of History. Music, food, fun are planned for 'Tent Event'

Local musician Sarasota Slim and his band will perform at a "Tent Event" on Nov. 9 from 6 to 9 p.m. at 4301 16th St. N parking lot of Grace Lutheran Church. Food and children's activities will be available for a small price. Gulf Coast Community Care needs volunteers age 30 and older for its mentoring program.

Caroling competition supports free clinic

Join fellow yuletide revelers Dec. 8 at North Straub Park for the second annual Great Figgy Pudding Street Corner Caroling Competition to raise funds to support the work of the St. Petersburg Free Clinic and First Night St. Petersburg.

Teams of carolers will raise pledges from family members, friends and co-workers, then compete in either the Wild and Wacky or Traditional Choral categories. Costumes are encouraged.

Aid group needs help filling its cupboards

The St. Vincent de Paul cupboards are empty, and with holidays just around the corner, the center needs peanut butter, jelly, canned meats, all kinds of pasta and pasta box dinners, cereal, dry milk, instant mashed potatoes, rice, and snack foods.

Volunteers sought to help with tax returns

AARP Tax-Aide seeks volunteer tax counselors to prepare and E-File tax returns for clients of all ages with low to moderate incomes, between Feb. 1 and April 15. Volunteers don't have to be AARP members or retirees.

Applications accepted for Sungoddess Court

Applications are being accepted for the 2008 Sungoddess Court.

The Sungoddess program is a scholarship program created by the Suncoasters and Festival of States to honor young women in Pinellas County who are academically successful and are community volunteers. The Sungoddess must be able to represent the Festival of States as a goodwill ambassador at various events throughout the year.

Candidates for the court must be between 19 and 21 years old on or before Dec. 19, never married and have completed their freshman year in college. Their families must live in, or have their principal places of business in, Pinellas County south of Ulmerton Road.

The application deadline is Dec. 1.

Bayfront Health Systems will award a $2,500 scholarship to the 2008 Sungoddess and will match up to $1,000 of any additional donations received.

Up to 14 finalists will be selected for the Sungoddess Court and will participate in the St. Petersburg Festival of States April 3-13.

All applicants will be required to attend two social events during the 2007 holiday break.
