LAND O'LAKES
Deer-car collision fatal for animal
For all the building going on in central Pasco, occasionally there are reminders that the area is still largely rural. At 11:40 p.m. Thursday, Pasco sheriff's Sgt. Jeffrey Peake drove his agency-issued 2007 Chevrolet Impala west on State Road 54 between Livingston Road and Park Crescent Drive. Suddenly, a young buck deer, about 120 pounds, ran from the woods in front of the car. The deer survived, but its rear legs were broken. The sergeant ended its suffering with one shot from a .45-caliber Kimber pistol, a report said. The sergeant notified the county road and bridge department to remove the carcass from the median.
