Yang disappointed with start
The first round of the Class 2A state golf tournament Tuesday at the Club at Eaglebrooke in Lakeland didn't go as planned for Wharton star Shena Yang.
She recorded 2-over 74.
"I'm really not happy with the score," said Yang, a junior.
All isn't lost. Yang is only three shots behind leader Haley Millsap (Pace) entering today's final round.
Yang had one bogey Tuesday, as well as triple bogey on the par-4 second. On the bright side, she made two birdies.
"I should have made a lot more," Yang said. "I had a lot of opportunities. I missed some putts that I should have made."

Raising the Barr
Marshall has become the first Division I-A football program to offer Riverview defensive end Quincy Barr a scholarship, but it might not be the last.
The 6-foot-4, 225-pound senior, the anchor of the Sharks' defensive line, has 50 tackles and 21/2 sacks.
"Most people have to account for this kid," Riverview coach Dan O'Regan said. "He's a speed guy off the edge. And he has great range."
Southern Miss and South Florida also are interested, the coach said.
Tick, tick, tick
For Durant volleyball coach Dawn Hough, the phrase "one and done" has added significance.
That's because every match could be her last.
Hough, who is in her second - and final - season with the Cougars, is getting married this month and will move to Broward County in December.
"I don't want it to be over," said Hough, a former all-state player at Durant. "It's gone by so fast. I want these girls to go out with a bang."
Durant (18-6) hosts Countryside (23-3) at 7 tonight in the first round of the Class 6A playoffs. Coincidentally, Countryside ended Durant's season last fall.
