Speaking of Christmas, what's going to hang on your door this year? Look at this bromeliad wreath. It's a 13-inch grapevine wreath with a Meyendorfii bromeliad and Spanish moss. The bromeliad, of course, will last long after the holidays. It's $29.95 from Logee's. Call toll-free 1-888-330-8038 or visit www.logees.com.

A Florida-friendly plants resource

A caller left a voice mail asking where to obtain a list of Florida-friendly plants. Since this is a frequent question, here's the source: Go to www.floridayards.org, the Web site of Florida Yards and Neighborhoods. You'll find lists of what grows where, tutorials, an interactive yard and lots more.

Buy pumpkins while you still can

If you're thinking you'll want pumpkins for Thanksgiving decorations, pick them up soon. Now that Halloween is over, streetside pumpkin vendors will convert to Christmas tree stands, and groceries will move pumpkins out in favor of Christmas produce. Don't wait.

Honors for horticulturists

Jim and Phyllis Gilreath of Myakka City will be inducted into the Manatee County Agriculture Hall of Fame this month. They are professional horticulturists. Jim's an expert on soilborne pests; Phyllis specializes in managing the silverleaf whitefly, which damages tomatoes.

From history to horticulture

Jessica Ventimiglia, currently executive director of the St. Petersburg Museum of History, has been named interim executive director of Marie Selby Botanical Gardens in Sarasota. Ventimiglia formerly worked in a senior management position at Selby and at the Missouri Botanical Garden in St. Louis.

Put your garden in the pink

New from Heronswood Gardens: this Campanula "Pink Octopus." Its unusual pink buds open to striking pink octopuslike weeping flowers. The plant forms a strong clump without being overly aggressive in the garden. It's happy in zones 5 through 10. To get details or place an order, go to www.heronswood.com.
