ST. PETERSBURG - Largo outlasted Gibbs 17-14 Friday for the Class 5A, District 10 championship and right to host a first-round playoff game. The Packers also upped their undefeated streak to 9-0 while Gibbs dropped to 6-3 but finished as district runnerup. The Packers owned the first and third quarters, going up 10-0 at the end of the first and 17-7 at the end of the third. They were led by senior all-everything running back Brynn Harvey, who finished with 26 rushes for 211 yards, including a 60-yard scamper for a touchdown on the first play of the second half that proved to be the winner. Harvey received some help, however, from senior quarterback Leonard Johnson who finished with eight rushes for 80 yards, including 31- and 33-yard gains in the first half. The Packers defense played a superb game, stopping the Gladiators twice for no gain from the Packers 3 in the final 15 seconds. They also sacked Gibbs quarterback Lamar Hall twice and stopped the Gladiators once on fourth down. The Gladiators were led by Hall, who rushed 10 times for 51 yards and one touchdown. Hall was also 15-of-27 passing for 176 yards.
