FORT MYERS - Facing criticisms that it wasn't as dominant as in years past despite four shutout victories this season, Tampa Catholic dominated Fort Myers Bishop Verot to win the Class 2A-5 title. The Crusaders (8-1, 5-0) held the Vikings (6-3, 3-2) without a first down until midway through the third and surrendered only 60 yards to push the game to a running clock for the fourth quarter. "They took the challenge upon themselves," Crusaders coach Bob Henriquez said. "People have been saying we haven't been scoring enough points, but we've been winning ball games. Tonight we put it all together." Senior defensive end Marco Mendoza had three sacks to run his season total to 16 and blocked a punt in the second quarter to set up Drew Zink's 5-yard score and a 21-0 halftime edge.
