$13M jackpot winner may get prison term

A one time Florida Lotto jackpot winner pleaded guilty Friday to filing a false tax return, according to documents filed in federal court. Rhoda Toth is facing a maximum of three years in prison. The Internal Revenue Service says that Toth owes more than $1.1-million and her husband, Alex, owes more than $1.4-million in back taxes. The agency said the Toths lied about their income in 2000, 2001 and 2003. Federal prosecutors also accused the couple of falsely reporting gambling losses to offset their winnings. The Toths won $13-million from the Florida Lotto in 1990. The couple filed for Chapter 13 bankruptcy protection several years ago. In August, Magistrate Judge Elizabeth A. Jenkins declared Alex Toth unfit for trial. His doctors testified that Toth has mental and physical ailments. The judge ordered him to a federal medical facility for treatment.
