Rout allows UCF to stay in C-USA race
ORLANDO - Kevin Smith rushed for 188 yards and two touchdowns as UCF beat Marshall 47-13 Saturday.
With the victory, the Knights kept pace with East Carolina, which defeated Memphis 56-40. At 4-1, UCF is a half-game behind the Pirates in Conference USA's East Division. However, East Carolina holds the tiebreaker because of its 52-38 win over UCF on Oct. 6.
Smith, who entered as the second-leading rusher in the nation, scored on an 87-yard run on a trap play up the middle to put the Knights up 20-0 in the second quarter. The junior is the only I-A running back to score two touchdowns on runs of 80-plus yards. An 80-yarder came in the season-opening 25-23 win over N.C. State.
Smith put UCF up 7-0 in the first quarter with a 2-yard run.

But Corey Council returned the ensuing kickoff 90 yards to put the Wildcats ahead.
FAMU 24, N.C. A&T 21: Wesley Taylor's 33-yard field goal with 45 seconds left ended the host Rattlers' four-game losing skid. The Aggies rallied from 18-0 down to take a lead. But Taylor tied it with a 43-yard field goal in the third.
