The Spring Hill Chapterof the Hernando County Home Business Women's Network recently hosted a fundraiser to benefit the Dawn Center.
Chapter members sold purple wooden roses for $1 each and raised, to date, $51 for the women's shelter in observance of Domestic Violence Awareness Month. In addition, $150 was raised the previous week for the shelter. The funds will be used to purchase gas cards.

Dr. Howard Glicksman has joined the practice at Florida Cancer Institute, an affiliate of US Oncology, as a palliative care specialist.
Glicksman is a diplomate of the American Board of Hospice and Palliative Medicine. He received his medical training from the University of Toronto's School of Medicine and completed his rotating internship at St. Joseph's Hospital in Toronto.
Glicksman has practiced in Hernando County since 1984. From 1984 through 1988, he was on staff at Lykes Memorial Hospital in Brooksville. He held privileges at Oak Hill Hospital from 1984 to 2003.

Dr. Robert G. Blackburn, board certified family practice physician, 10494 Northcliffe Blvd., Spring Hill, attended the Florida Society of the American College of Osteopathic Physicians Board of Trustees meeting Oct. 20 at the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine in Bradenton.
Blackburn is an adjunct clinical professor at the college, as well as at Nova Southeastern College of Osteopathic Medicine in Fort Lauderdale.
Medical students from both colleges perform their rural medicine rotation with Blackburn at his Spring Hill office.

Evergreen Woods Health & Rehabilitation Center, 7045 Evergreen Woods Trail, Spring Hill, will have the grand opening of its cardiac specialty unit and newly renovated subacute unit from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Evergreen Woods is a 120-bed skilled nursing facility that provides a full range of services. The cardiac program at Evergreen Woods offers 12-lead EKG testing as well as 24-hour telemetry monitoring.

The Spring Hill Professionals Chapter of Ali Lassen's Leads Club will meet at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Silverthorn Country Club, 4450 Golf Club Lane, Brooksville.
The club offers weekly opportunities to give brief business presentations and exchange leads collected during the previous week.
Membership fees are required, and there is a separate payment each week for the luncheon.
The club offers noncompete business classifications to avoid conflicts of interest.

Belk Department Store, 13151 Cortez Blvd., Spring Hill, will have its fall charity day sale from 6 to 10 a.m. Saturday. Nonprofit organizations may still sign up to participate.
The sale is to help organizations raise money. All participating nonprofit, tax-exempt organizations will sell tickets for $5 each. People who purchase a ticket will receive a shopping pass good for 20 to 50 percent off throughout the store, in addition to $5 off a first purchase.
During the sale, organizations will be encouraged to present information to customers. Organizations will be allowed to have bake sales outside the store.

Service Corps of Retired Executives, Pasco-Hernando Chapter 439, will offer a free program for those thinking about buying a franchise from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the New Port Richey Public Library, 5939 Main St., New Port Richey.
The free program, sponsored by the library, will help identify, evaluate and explain franchise choices. Participants will learn some of the rules, laws and regulations that increase the odds of success.
Howard Bassuk, SCORE counselor and franchise industry veteran, will lead the workshop. Handouts will be provided.
