Today's Letters: Speed bumps do a necessary job

No logic behind speed humps,Nov. 1 letter
It's difficult for me to comprehend the letter writer's logic. Speed bumps have a definite and much-needed purpose, yet the man endorses their removal.
With the speed bumps and signs in place, he states, "now we have people racing and slamming brakes between speed bumps and ugly signs." He is his own best argument for speed bumps. Without them, you would have drivers "racing" along a residential area, not alert enough to what may be in front of them in the road or who may be trying to cross it.
Why not go further and remove all the ugly speed limit signs so that drivers can do what they please whenever and wherever they choose?
There is an old saying, "engage the clutch before feeding the gas."

Stop tailgating; leave earlier
There are way too many trucks on the road. I have heard of many accidents caused by semitrailer trucks. I have also noticed a lot of pickup trucks. Many times these types of trucks are tailgaters.
I was at a red light in an intersection and one of these big semitrailer trucks was blowing his horn wanting me to go while traffic was coming, which is why some of these problems are occurring. I had my left blinker on.
Have some people lost their brains and forgot what blinkers are used for?
If these drivers are in a super hurry, they should set an alarm and leave earlier to get on the road. This includes the big pickups. Tailgating is brainless.

It's not model of the car, It's the driver. "BE AWARE" of your surroundings and do the speed limit, and realize you can go "Right on Red" at many intersections. And pull all the way up to to the line so the smart signal system works. NOW MOVE IT!!!

I agree that tailgaiting needs to stop but I do feel a lot of the problem is caused by drivers who don't follow the unwritten rules and decide to drive as slow as they feel in the left lanes when they should be courtious and move over to the right.

sometimes no alot of times people have plenty of time to make a turn they don't because they are elderly and should not be driving. I'm sick of being cut off by them as they drive way below the limit.

I have found over the years that the majority of semi-truck drivers are courteous--above and beyond. The majority of SUV drivers I have noted are on the other end of the spectrum. Just my opinion.

It has nothing to do with trucks. It has everything to do with ignorant A@#$s who think the road is their personal speedway. I love my Silverado and wouldn't trade it for anything. All vehicles need to stp tailgating.
