American Legion Auxiliary Unit 186 will have a poppy drive at various business sites throughout Hernando County on Friday and Saturday.
The drive is part of the nationwide poppy campaign started by the American Legion and American Legion Auxiliary in 1921. Fields of poppy flowers survived the destruction in the fields of France and Flanders during World War I, and thus became a living symbol of the sacrifices soldiers of all nations had made.
Donations raised during the poppy drive will be used to help area veterans and their dependents. For information, call Lee Anderson at 666-8933.
