Sheriff reaches out to new homeowners

BROOKSVILLE
Hernando County Sheriff Richard Nugent and the Sheriff's Office will host a meeting and informal discussion for new homeowners at 6 p.m. Nov. 14 at the Emergency Communications Operation Center, 18900 Cortez Blvd. Nugent will discuss the programs that his office offers to Hernando County residents. Group's program touts Florida Trail
The Florida Trail Association will present "Hike Across Florida-Hike Across Hernando," at 10 a.m. Thursday at Lykes Memorial Library, 238 Howell Ave. Attendees will learn about the Florida Trail and its plants, animals, rivers and uplands. For information, call Mitch Almon at 796-4740.

Tasty event helps Arc Nature Coast
A cooking demonstration and wine tasting to benefit the Arc Nature Coast will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Carrabba's Italian Grill, 12957 Cortez Blvd. The menu will include bruschetta checca, pollo rosa maria, garlic mashed potatoes, zucchini stefano, four wines and dessert. The demonstration will include the history of each wine and each dish. The cost is $75. Seating is limited. This is the kickoff for the Arc's Endowment Challenge campaign, with a goal to raise $3,750 in 90 days and obtain a matching grant. For reservations, call 544-2322, ext. 109.
African-American Club holding picnic
The African American Club will host a meet-and-greet picnic from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at SNPJ Lodge, 13383 County Line Road. Admission is free. Food will be provided, including fried fish, barbecued chicken and beverages. Those attending are encouraged to bring games.
