Eckerd College 4200 54th Ave. S St. Petersburg, 864-7979 There will be a gallery talk at 3 p.m. today at Elliott Gallery on "War Paint," an exhibit about the absurdity of war, on display through Nov. 21. Regular gallery hours are 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The Rev. Joan Brown Campbell, director of the Department of Religion at Chautauqua Institution, will speak on The Historic Chautauqua Platform: Gift and Challenge at 4 p.m. today at Lewis House. The Chautauqua Institution is a nonprofit adult education center and summer resort founded in 1874 near Jamestown, N.Y. This lecture is part of the 25th Anniversary Academy of Senior Professionals at Eckerd College Forum Series. Bernie McGrenahan, comedian and alcohol awareness expert, will present Happy Hour Comedy at 7 p.m. today at Fox Hall. After his stand-up act, McGrenahan will talk about high-risk drinking and how it affected his own life. Lynn Aarti Chandhok will read from The View from Zero Bridge, her 2007 collection of poems, at 7 p.m. Thursday at Lewis House. This first published collection won the Levine Prize in Poetry. Abhinav Dwivedi of the Hindu University of America will join the Center for Spiritual Life and Campus Ministries in hosting a Diwali Celebration at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Wireman Chapel. Join in the Hindu Festival of Lights with music, dancing and food. The Eckerd Theater production of Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream opens at 8 p.m. Thursday at Bininger Theater. Show times are 8 p.m. Thursday-Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday through Nov. 18. Admission is $10 at the door. Steven Bokenkamp, associate professor of East Asian languages and culture at Indiana University, will speak on Ancestors and Anxiety: Daoism and the Family at 5 p.m. Friday at Miller Auditorium. Blame It On Fidel, a 2006 French film by Julie Gavras, will be shown at 7 p.m. Friday at Miller Auditorium. A 9-year-old Parisian girl struggles with the new lifestyle when her parents decide to devote their lives to radical activism. Pianist Rebecca Penneys will give a recital at 3 p.m. Sunday at Roberts Music Center, Room 104. Penneys has taught at the Eastman School of Music since 1980, and at the Chautauqua Institution where she has been chair of the piano department since 1985 and a resident artist since 1978. She was appointed Visiting Artist at St. Petersburg College in 2001. Doug Henry, assistant professor of Anthropology at the University of North Texas, will speak on Conflict Diamonds, Refugees and Environmental Impacts of War at 7:30 p.m. Monday at Miller Auditorium. Randall Wells, of the Chicago Zoological Society's Conservation, Education and Training Group and Mote Marine Laboratory's Center for Marine Mammal and Sea Turtle Research, will present The Bottlenose Dolphins of Sarasota Bay: Lessons from 37 Years and five Generations at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Fox Hall. University of South Florida St. Petersburg 140 Seventh Ave. S St. Petersburg The 2007 summer blockbuster Transformerswill be shown at 8 p.m. today on the Harborside Lawn. Two warring robotic clans from the planet Cybertron bring their battle to Earth. For information, call 873-4599. Singers, dancers, musicians and poets are invited to the 2nd Annual Multicultural Talent Show Saturday at the Campus Activities Center. Doors open at 5:30 p.m.; the show starts at 6 p.m. Monetary prizes will be awarded to first-, second- and third-place winners. Admission for nonparticipants is $2. Entry deadline is today.
