Volleyball: Tougher outing, same victorious outcome

TAMPA - It wasn't exactly a rout, but it was no walk in the park either.
By the time Berkeley Prep finished off Academy of the Holy Names for a 3-0 victory, longtime Bucs coach Randy Dagostino decided to take some extra time to remind his squad that a performance like that might not earn a win in the next round.
But it was enough Tuesday.
Led by Alex Dickerson (13 kills), Chelsea Parker (10 kills) and Lindsay Young (11 blocks and 15 kills), the Bucs controlled the match 25-12, 25-22, 25-19 but could never quite get comfortable with the Jaguars.
"I kept looking up thinking we should have a 10-point lead and we only led by two or three," said Dagostino, whose team is 22-7 and had 17 hitting errors Tuesday. "Academy is definitely better than the first time we played them this year."
Academy (13-16) stayed close with the Bucs but suffered too many errors and couldn't counter Berkeley Prep's play at the net. It was Academy's fourth loss to Berkeley this season.
The teams were tied at 20 in the second game before the Bucs pulled away and Academy closed to 21-19 in the final game before the Bucs closed out the match.
Maureen Colligan led Academy with 10 kills; Julia Gordon added 10 digs.
