Ikea, the Swedish furniture and home accessories warehouse store, opens Wednesday at the Mall at Millenia in Orlando.

Overhead electronic signage on Interstate 4 and a dedicated turn lane at Exit 78 will direct shoppers who are eager to buy the international chain's 10,000 chic-and-cheap items: furniture, lamps, rugs, wine glasses, Swedish meatballs.

Ikea estimates it already has 100,000 customers in the Tampa Bay area, and it expects the Orlando store - "a home furnishings amusement park," a spokesman called it - will only prime them for the opening of an Ikea in Tampa in the summer of 2009.
