CLEARWATER

A 7-year-old girl walking home from Kings Highway Elementary School was hit by a car as she tried to cross Sunset Point Road near Flora Road on Thursday afternoon, police said.

First-grader Pandora Strandboe and her 10-year-old brother, fourth-grader Dakota Strandboe, were crossing Sunset Point from south to north and had made it to the middle of the street when she looked the wrong way and went ahead, police said. Her brother tried to pull her back but could not get her out of the way in time.

She was hit by a car driven by Judith Guensch, 67, of Palm Harbor. Pandora, who lives in an apartment complex on N Highland Avenue, suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was flown to Bayfront Medical Center as a precaution, police said. The place where the children tried to cross is not a crosswalk, officials said.

Police were investigating the accident but said Guensch did not appear to be at fault.

I'm sorry, but what parent in their right mind allows their 7 & 10 year old kids to cross Sunset Point AT ALL? Were they also going home UNSUPERVISED as well? I understand if the parents have to work-but send them to a daycare or a babysitter instead
