Reader Exchange: An abundance of jigsaw puzzles available
By Linda D. Cole and Ingrid L. Kohler, Times Staff Writers
Published November 10, 2007
Chris of Dunedin is looking for a few good people who like to be puzzled. That's because Chris wants to give away several dozen jigsaw puzzles. Each contains 500 to 1,000 pieces, and they range in difficulty from the moderate to the sell-your-soul-to-the-devil-for-assistance variety. We may, however, be exaggerating a bit there. Folks are welcome to choose any or all, Chris writes - just choose something. This is a question of running out of room to store them. Please call Chris any evening after 6 p.m. at (727) 734-5262. Norma Holt can sympathize with recent readers who needed help getting reel-to-reel tapes transferred to CD or cassette. Norma has tapes her dad recorded in the '50s of family and friends singing and talking. They have sentimental value to her, and she hasn't been able to locate a person or place that could provide assistance. Norma says she still has the tape recorder on which the tapes were made, but the tapes themselves haven't been played in years, and she is crossing her fingers that they are still in good enough condition to be transferred. If you are the person Norma needs tosort this out, please e-mail normaholt@earthlink.net. Ruth Wilson of St. Petersburg wishes to give a school or organization a Tasco microscope with 1200XK power. She also hopes there is one more slide projector left out there in Exchange Land; she has some slides of the Holy Land that she is eager to view. On either count, Ruth may be reached at (727) 522-3642. Blanton Elementary School, 6400 54th Ave. N, St. Petersburg, finds itself short of staff in plant operations. A used golf cart in running condition would do much to take up the slack, enabling assistance to move more swiftly from one end of campus to the other than it now does. Please contact family and community relations liaison Tammy Ferrandiz at the school, (727) 547-7820, if you can help. Elaine Keifer of Largo was bitten by the crochet bug more than 55 years ago, and during that time she has assembled a sizable library of crochet magazines. At this point they are taking up far more space than Elaine would like, so she is offering a box of them to a fellow needleworker so she can ease the overcrowding. Please call (727) 581-2875. Francis Reed, a member of the Marine Corps League, has participated in the funerals of many military veterans in this area. He writes that it would be a great help if a bugle, in any condition, were available to use in these services. If you have one you would be willing to donate, call Francis at (727) 841-9078. Thank-you note Lucie Somers sends a big thanks to everyone who wrote to her about Boblo Island and its history. She could visualize herself and her family once again on the boat, headed to a place that provided them a lot of fun. Send requests to Reader Exchange, Floridian, St. Petersburg Times, P.O. Box 1121, St. Petersburg 33731 or e-mail cole@sptimes.com. Requests will be accepted only by mail or e-mail. This is an exchange column, so we will not run items that are for sale. Readers must agree to publication of phone numbers, including area code.
