East lake grad's army unit to be on news show

PALM HARBOR Check out Monday night's edition of ABC's Nightline at 11:30 p.m., and you might catch a glimpse of Army Pfc. Marc Solowski, 21, who was born in Largo and graduated from East Lake High School. Solowski, the son of Lynn Solowski of Palm Harbor, is a gunner with the 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team in the Korengal Valley in Afghanistan. He is serving a 15-month deployment and has been nominated for a medal for securing a hilltop, organizing and leading a counterattack while under fire and preventing the body of a fellow soldier from falling into enemy hands on Oct. 23. The show will focus on what his unit has been through in the last month. Honor veteransat service Monday Curlew Hill Memory Gardens' annual Veterans Day service will start at 9:30 a.m. Monday at the cemetery, 1750 Curlew Road. The guest speaker will be retired Air Force Col. Jerry F. Custin. More than 20 veterans organizations will be represented. Retired Coast Guard Rear Adm. William S. DUNEDIN Annual festival gets going tonight An estimated 20,000 or more people are expected for today 's 17th annual Wines the Blues festival in downtown Dunedin. The free event runs from 5-11 p.m. on Main Street and features food from local restaurants, beer and wine. Musical acts for the festival include blues-rock band Wendy and the Soul Shakers from about 5 to 7 p.m., soul and R&B artist Al "Coffee" McDaniel from about 7 to 9 p.m., and roots rocker Eric Lindell from about 9 to 11 p.m. You'll need to show a photo ID to buy beer or wine. CLEARWATER Golf tournament starts Sunday The Chi Chi Rodriguez Golf Club will hold its annual Chi Chi Charity Classic starting Sunday at the club, 3030 N McMullen-Booth Road. The LPGA Tour's Brittany Lincicome and Jenny Gleason are scheduled to participate in various activities over the weekend. TV commentator Dick Crippen is the event's master of ceremonies. Play begins at 8:55 a.m. Sunday and 7:55 a.m. Monday. The cost to play starts at $385 and includes dinner. Proceeds benefit the Chi Chi Rodriguez Academy and the First Tee Program of Clearwater.
