Bank robber rejects loot as 'not enough'

Pinellas County sheriff's detectives are investigating whether two bank robberies Friday and Saturday are linked to other holdups in the area, officials say.

The first occurred about 3:30 p.m. Friday at the World Savings Bank, 2525 Pasadena Ave., in South Pasadena.

The robber gave the teller a note demanding money. But when the teller handed over the cash she had available, he turned it down, saying, "That's not enough," and left without any money, according to sheriff's officials. Investigators did not release the amount of money the robber refused.

Friday's robber is described as a white male in his mid 20s wearing a two-toned baseball cap and a gray sweat shirt, possibly over a red shirt, jeans and sunglasses. He was also carrying a gray courier's bag.

The second robbery took place just after 11 a.m. Saturday at Fifth Third Bank at 9111 Oakhurst Road in Seminole.

In that holdup, a man wearing a white surgical mask gave a teller a note and indicated that he was carrying a weapon. He left the bank with an undisclosed amount of money in a blue zippered bag.

Authorities described the second robber as a white man in his 30s, wearing a baseball cap, brown jacket and white tennis shoes.

Detectives routinely check to see if the robbers are similar to those involved in any other recent robberies. Sheriff's officials ask anyone with information about the robberies or suspects to call the sheriff's robbery unit at (727) 582-6200 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-873-8477.
