The Largo/Mid-Pinellas Chamber of Commerce has joined other business organizations in a fight against the "Hometown Democracy" amendment. Should the initiative make it to a statewide ballot and be ratified next year, many believe it would seriously jeopardize Florida's prosperity andquality of life. The amendment will be the topic of the next chamber business luncheon, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at Cypress Palms, 400 Lake Ave. NE. It will feature Neil Brickfield of Floridians for Smarter Growth and Brad Swanson of the Florida Chamber of Commerce. Cost to attend is $10 for members in advance, $15 at the door and $20 for nonmembers. Call 584-2321 or e-mail events@largochamber.org to register. As proposed, Hometown Democracy would require that all local comprehensive land use plan changes meet voter approval as opposed to the planning process now in place. It would force citizens, not the representatives they elected, to regularly decide thousands of intricate land-useplanning issues. Learn how to make the most of your computer The Largo/Mid-Pinellas Chamber of Commerce and SCORE Service Corps of Retired Executives will hold a workshop called Effective Use of the Computer in Your Business on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Largo Public Library, 120 Central Park Drive. There is no cost to attend. This is not a technical computer course. The objective of the workshop is to highlight tools available on the computer to facilitate businesses in planning, marketing, sales, management, accounting and training resources. Seating is limited. Call the chamber at 584-2321 to register.
