John C. Cotey's Top 10
Ranking the bay area's football teams, with previous ranking in parentheses.

1. 1 Armwood (10-0)
Friday: Watched Friday Night Rewind replays at highschool.tampabay.com.
This week: vs. Lake Region
Armwood, 10-0 and ranked No.1 in the state, has won 16 of its last 18 playoff games, hasn't lost a first-round playoff game since 1999, is 5-1 against Polk County teams in the postseason and will be playing a team that has never won a playoff game. Other than that, you have to love Lake Region's chances.
2. (2) Plant (9-1)
Friday: beat Robinson 56-0.
This week: vs. Northeast.
So, at what point can Plant be accused of running up the score on its opponent? Is it the sixth touchdown PASS in the FIRST HALF ... or the seventh ... or would it be the eighth touchdown PASS in the FOURTH QUARTER. Just wondering.
3. (3) Largo (10-0)
Friday: beat Northeast 41-7.
This week: vs. East Lake
Brynn Harvey sets a school and Pinellas County rushing record, and the Packers rebound from a tough game the week before to once again wear the look of a team ready to make a playoff dent.
4. (4) Hillsborough (8-2)
Friday: Did homework. Cranked up The Very Best of Barry Manilow to get fired up for next week's playoffs.
This week: at Auburndale.
Terriers are feisty and energetic. Bloodhounds are trained to find and help lost people. I don't know what that means for the game Friday, but of the two, I won't be replacing my GPS with a Terrier, that's for sure.
5. (6) Chamberlain (7-3)
Friday: Watched Rudy 2,176 times.
This week: vs. Wharton.
Someone once said you can throw out the records once the playoffs start. Think the guy's name was Ed Cliche. But Wharton hopes you can throw this one out - it has never beaten the Chiefs.
6. (7) Land O'Lakes (9-1)
Friday: beat Wiregrass Ranch 34-6.
This week: vs. Rockledge.
For the second straight season, the Gators lost their season opener and won the next nine games. They've already agreed to forfeit next year's season opener.
7. (8) Boca Ciega (8-2)
Friday: beat Gibbs 34-31.
This week: vs. Jefferson.
The Pirates gave up two 93-yard kickoff returns for touchdowns, and had a blocked kick returned 70 yards for another score. Oh yeah, and they won. It's called Bogie Ball.
8. (10) Ridgewood (9-1)
Friday: beat Zephyrhills 56-6.
This week: at Daytona Beach Seabreeze.
Gotta be honest here, there ain't nothing better on a hot day, with the baby oil dripping off you and the sun baking you a nice crispy brown, a cold drink in one hand and a good book in the other and the sand between your toes, than when a Daytona Beach sea breeze blows in off the water. Mmmmmmmm. Oh ... sorry. Where was I?
9. (6) Brandon (7-3)
Friday: Lost to Riverview 21-12.
This week: vs. Lakeland.
There's no disputing that the Eagles left everything they had last week on the field at Plant City. Uh, if anyone happens to walk by there, mind picking it up and sending it to 1101 Victoria Street, Brandon? Care of coach John Lima? Thanks.
10. (11) East Lake (7-3)
Friday: beat Gulf 23-10.
This week: at Largo.
The Eagles season started with a 20-0 loss to Largo. Will it end with one too?

If you wanted Plant to run up the score, the starters would have played the entire game and scored over 100 points. It's not Plant's fault Robinson was awful. You gotta practice for the playoffs. Pick on me if you wanna pick and ill talk to you!

Just wondering about your logic Cotey - would you suggest a great running team start throwing the ball when they have a lead? It's a kids game and the freshman QB's should throw and learn the game no matter what the score - next time ask the kids!

"Bogie Ball" - it's called no discipline and it's going to hurt them when they play good teams

Cotey---kiss my grits you Sasquatch. Why don't you come to the Plant and we'll sit down and have a civil discussion about your accusation of running up the score. Then you can go back and write about your findings. Horsecrap for you to write that.
