The River Ridge girls basketball team is off to a good start.
For that, it can thank Megan Sanchez and Amanda McCann.
In a 41-30 win over Lecanto on Tuesday night, the backcourt duo combined for more than half the Knights' points. Sanchez, a point guard, had 11 points and had two assists. McCann, a shooting guard, added 10 points, with three rebounds and two steals.
The Knights (1-0) did much of their damage early, gaining a 12-1 lead after the opening quarter. They held a 15-point margin at the half.
"When we went to the locker room, I told them it was nice to start off with a win," River Ridge coach Al Sorrentino said. "Any problem I think we need to fix, they'll hear about it (today)."
Gulf 67, Sunlake 11
At Sunlake, Nicole Adams scored 18 to lead the Bucs to a win in the season opener for both teams. Ashley Mitchell hit three 3-pointers and added 13 points.
Sunlake was paced by Lindsey Robinson, who scored six points.
Hudson 59, Pasco 57 OT
At Pasco, Cara Carley scored a game-high 27 to lead Hudson to an overtime win in a back-and-forth game. Pasco's Lucy Schneider scored 21.
Hudson (1-0) led most of the way, but Pasco (0-1) rallied in the final quarter to force the extra period.
"It was a good game," Pasco coach John Edwards said. "We got down early, then came back. In overtime, we had post players with opportunities but we just didn't finish."

Bishop McLaughlin 8,
Carrollwood Day School 0
At Bishop McLaughlin, the Hurricanes got three goals from senior forward Matt Gronau as they improved to 1-0. Gronau added two assists.
Five other players scored.
Freshman Matt Gulau contributed two assists.
"It was a good start to the season," Bishop McLaughlin coach John Mayer said. "We started off a little sluggishly trying to get our legs. But once we started rolling, everything came into place with a lot of good passing combinations."
