Brinson gets big offer

Jeff Brinson has been the object of college recruiters' affection this season. The Northeast running back has at least 35 offers from schools, including several from the Big Ten.

Now he has his biggest one yet - an offer from the University of Florida.

"The Gators are looking at him as either a one back or fullback," Vikings coach Jay Austin said.

Brinson rushed for 1,754 yards in the regular season, the second-best total in the county. He sustained cracked ribs a month ago against Lakewood but was cleared to play in Friday's Class 4A region quarterfinal game at Plant.

Schedule change?

The big girls basketball showdown between Clearwater and Boca Ciega could be moved.

The Pirates are supposed to host the game Friday night at 7:45. Trouble is, Boca Ciega's football team is hosting Jefferson in the 4A region quarterfinals the same night.

If the game is switched, it likely will be played Saturday.

More signings

Two girls basketball players, St. Petersburg Catholic's Sasha Chaplin (Indiana) and Dunedin's Kellie Van Patten (Flagler), will be signing their national letters of intent today at their respective schools.

Boys hoops

St. Petersburg is hosting a preseason boys basketball tournament today and Saturday.

Today, Lakewood plays Bradenton Southeast at 6:30 p.m. and St. Petersburg plays South Broward at 7:45.

Saturday's schedule is St. Petersburg vs. Southeast at 6:30 and Lakewood vs. South Broward at 7:45.
