Five seniors from H.B. Plant High School and Academy of the Holy Names will march in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade with the Universal Dance Association in New York City next week.

The South Tampa students were chosen to join the parade after attending the UDA camp in Daytona Beach last summer.

"The girls had to perform individually and then in a group in front of the judges, and after the evaluation they were invited to join the parade," said Julie Moroney, who coaches the Plant dancers. Aja Gower, 17, Danielle Laskowitz, 17, Sarah Schobben, 17, all from Plant, and Lauren Strady, 17, and Sarah Josey, 17, from Academy of the Holy Names fly to New York City on Saturday.

The five teens will have the chance to explore the Big Apple and engage in a variety of activities. "They get the opportunity to see the New York Rockettes and to dance with professional dancers in the evening," said Valencia Gower, Aja's mother.
