Here's help to get your budget in check

Hernando County Cooperative Extension Service will provide a one-hour class, "A Spending Plan for the New Year," on these dates:
- 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, at the extension office, 19490 Oliver St., Brooksville.
- 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Forest Oaks Government Center, 7479 Forest Oaks Blvd., Spring Hill.
The class will give insight on how to improve financial health and will explore buying, borrowing, saving, investing, purchasing a home, paying debts and planning for the future.
With a spending plan, families can identify spending leaks, establish consistent saving habits, prepare for emergencies and focus on a future financial plan.

Fundraiser will benefit local animal shelters
Three Dog Canine Supplies will have a donation box throughout November to benefit the Humane Society of the Nature Coast, Hernando County SPCA and Hernando County Animal Services.
Also, a Share the Bounty event will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 17 at the business, 6099 Broad St.
During the event, donations of cash and items such as pet food, bottled water, collars and leashes, towels and cleaning supplies will be accepted. Animals will be available for adoption.
There will also be food, prizes and face painting for children.
Dog owners will be able to trade in their old, clean and usable collars and receive a 10 percent discount on purchasing a new one.
Funds raised will benefit all three local shelters.

Toys for Tots registration open until Dec. 17
Marine Corps League Detachment 708, sponsor for the Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots program in Hernando County, will accept registrations for Toys for Tots from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays, Nov. 13-Dec. 17 at the Hernando County Fairgrounds, 6436 S Broad St.
The program is for children ages 6 months through 12 years. Parents or legal guardians must register in person and must bring proof of residency (driver's license and current utility bill), and a birth certificate for each child.
