The Knights have won four straight, including 45-31 at UAB last week. It will win Conference USA's East division and host the title game with wins today and next week at home against UTEP. Kevin Smith continues to churn, last week setting a school record with 320 rushing yards. He has 1,768 yards for the season, and his 22 touchdowns are tied for the most in C-USA history. SMU has lost seven in a row, including 43-42 to Rice last week on a field goal with no time left. Its only victory came against North Texas, and the school previously announced coach Phil Bennett will not return next season.
FIU (0-9, 0-4 Sun Belt) vs. La.-Lafayette (2-8, 2-3), 7
The Golden Panthers have three chances to avoid consecutive winless seasons, including tonight's homecoming game at the Orange Bowl. They came close in their last game, losing 27-24 to Arkansas State on Nov. 3 on a last-second field goal. Two of FIU's final three opponents have losing records. After Florida Atlantic next week, it faces 1-9 North Texas.
