FOR CHILD PORN, 72-YEAR-OLD GETS 17-YEAR SENTENCE
Roger Stowell pleaded with a federal judge Friday for a prison sentence that would allow him to spend the final years of his life surrounded by loved ones, not inmates. "I don't want to die in jail," the 72-year-old Tampa man said. "I want to spend my last useful years with people who care about me and who will be willing to care for me." Stowell said those people won't be his immediate family. His wife and son turned him in to authorities in April after they found child pornography on his home computer. Stowell's attorney said in court that life expectancy charts indicate his client has about 10 years to live. And his health is fading, said assistant federal Public Defender Adam Allen. U.S. District Judge Steven Merryday was unmoved. He gave Stowell the maximum prison time outlined in the sentencing guidelines - 171/2 years in federal prison for pleading guilty to two counts of possessing child pornography.

The three robbers sped away in a four-door Chevy. Soon thereafter, Adrion D. Evans, 23, of 9411 Chalet Court, showed up at St. Joseph's Hospital saying he had been shot in the stomach. Evans was taken to surgery.

It was 45 degrees outside when Cassie Chapman went rummaging through a stranger's car on Stagecoach Lane about 4 a.m. Friday, authorities said. When the car's owner spotted her, she took off running. And when a police dog caught up to her, according to a report, she had money, a power drill, CDs, a portable CD player and a car stereo on her - all stolen. Where was she stowing the loot? In a baby stroller, which was also holding a 5-month-old. Chapman, 22 of 8509 Hunting Saddle Drive was charged with auto burglary and petty theft, as well as child abuse.
